Lena Cresci, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away on February 21st, 2024, in San Francisco at the age of 89. Born in Porticello, Sicily, on August 5, 1934, Lena moved to San Francisco in 1947, building a new life with her family.
Her heart remained closely tied to her Sicilian roots, and she treasured trips to Italy, reconnecting with old friends and creating new memories. Lena's humor and spirited nature never failed to brighten the lives of those around her.
Lena dedicated over 40 years to Pac Bell, leaving a legacy as an executive assistant. Her hard work, resilience, and vibrant personality earned her the love and respect of colleagues, making her a cherished member of the company.
A devout Catholic, Lena actively participated in her community, attending weekly mass at St. Peter and Paul Church. She demonstrated her devotion through her involvement in the Madonna Del Lume Society, her weekly ritual of bringing flowers and lighting candles at the church, and support for the Salesian Boys and Girls Club.
After retiring, Lena devoted herself to caring for her older sister Francesca "Frances" until her passing in 2017, showcasing unwavering love for her family. While Lena did not have children, she played a pivotal role in the lives of her nieces and nephews—Salvatore Corona, Francesca Rehnborg, Anna Maria Alioto, and Tommy Cresci—and her great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Her love, guidance, and generosity forged a legacy. In her later years, Lena formed a strong bond with her great-nephew Sandro Alioto, whom she cared for as a son.
Lena is preceded in death by her parents, Domenico and Francesca Cresci, brothers Tomaso "Massi" and Giuseppe, and sisters Giuseppina and Francesca. Lena's warmth, laughter, and love have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. As we bid farewell, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the beautiful memories she leaves behind. Rest in peace, dear Lena.
A funeral mass in her memory will be celebrated on Thursday, February 29th, at 10:30 a.m., at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 666 Filbert St., San Francisco, CA 94133, followed by committal services at Italian Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Salesian Boys and Girls Club in Lena's name.
